Cute packaging? Holiday theme? Sold. It doesn't take much to win me over. Yes, it was a love-at-first-sight kind of moment with the I Heart Revolution Snow Globe Snowflake eyeshadow palette. I had never seen anything quite like it before. The front of the palette mimicked a festive snow globe in a fun and unexpected way. It didn't even matter what was inside! Needless to say, there was no doubt about it: that palette was coming home with me. Thankfully, it was both cute and ridiculously affordable. Want to find out more about this seasonal release? Here is everything you need to know about this unusual winter palette.
In terms of the packaging....this palette is everything. There is a dark background with snowflakes all over. Then over top of that background, there is a snow globe kind of design, where glitter and snowflake shaped confetti shift and move around inside. It is mesmerizing! Without a doubt, this is the most inventive makeup packaging I've seen at this price point. And speaking of price point, the Snow Globe Snowflake Palette set me back a whopping $5 CDN.
As you can see from the picture above, there are nine eyeshadow shades in total. The Snow Globe Snowflake palette has a really beautiful colour story, with lots of cool-toned purples and blues. Then there are some champagne shades and icy shimmers to make sure everything about this palette screams winter. To finish it all off, there are a couple of browns for that added versatility. In terms of the shade selection, this was really well thought out. Those cool toned shades went well with the theme. And they were also a little unexpected! So many palettes these days stick to warm neutrals. It was a welcome surprise to open up this mini palette and find some cool winter colours.
When it comes to the pigmentation...that is where this eyeshadow palette falls a little flat. The shimmer shades are beautiful, creamy, and have a nice amount of colour payoff. But the matte shades are much drier and fail to make a real statement. For instance, that light lilac shade blends away to almost nothing when it is applied on the eyelid. (Which is a real shame, because that was the colour I was most excited to use.) The same is true for that medium purple. It's not that the palette is bad. But the quality of the shadows is very hit or miss. This is extra disappointing since there seemed to be so much thought put into the shade selection and package design. The Snow Globe Snowflake palette could've been incredible and instead, it appears to be another case of style over substance.
Ready to see the I Heart Revolution Snow Globe Snowflake palette in action? I made good use of those shimmer shades to create something that was simple and wearable. The deep brown shade was added for depth and to build out the crease. Be sure to let me know what you think of the finished look.....
This palette had a lot of promise. While I adore the colour choices and the packaging...I do wish there was more consistency within the eyeshadow shades themselves. It was a real missed opportunity.
