#FOTD: dollar store eyeshadow look + dollar store makeup swatches
byAdmin—0
Low cost doesn't necessarily mean low quality. Though it can be exciting to test and makeup from high end brands...or browse the selection of products at Sephora...dollar store makeup can also be thrilling. Believe it or not, the dollar store offers products that are both affordable and effective. Take these eyeshadow sets from Mariposa. The three mini palettes cost $4 CDN at a nearby dollar store. That is a whopping fifteen eyeshadow shades for $4. Not too shabby. Ready to find out how they perform? This post includes a mini review, makeup look, and a live swatch video.
There are several brands that seem to show up at the dollar store, like L.A. Colors, Sassy + Chic, Global Beauty Care, and Mariposa. Occasionally, some drugstore brand items will appear as well. I've seen Wet n Wild, Maybelline, and even L'Oreal at discounted prices. That goes to show...you don't necessarily need to spend a ton of money to find beauty products that work. Out of all typical dollar store brands, my all-time favourite is Mariposa. Their product tend to work extremely well. In the past, I've reviewed an eyeshadow palette and blush sets from Mariposa. The pigmentation level and texture was impressive, to say the least. Especially when you factor in the cost!
More recently, there was a set of Mariposa eyeshadows that caught my eye. As you can see from the picture above, the set had a lot of fabulous colours. There were warm bronzes, purples, and greens. For $4...it seemed like a fun way to test something new. Thankfully, the sets were positive overall. Some of the eyeshadow shades were outstanding in terms of colour payoff, finish, and texture. There were a few misses. But overall, there was a lot to work with. For this #FOTD, I applied the champagne shade all over the lid as a base. Then it was a combination of the two deepest bronze shades on the outer corner to add a bit of depth. I used the golden-white shimmer on the inner corner and underneath the brow bone for a little extra something. Then the turquoise shade was used to add a subtle pop of colour along the lower lash line.
Overall, it was a nice makeup look that was quick and easy to put together. The Mariposa eyeshadow shades did a lovely job and really complimented some of the other products in my makeup collection. It just goes to show...sometimes less is more. When it comes to cost, it is absolutely possible to find beauty products that work well and fit into a limited budget. All it takes is a quick trip to the dollar store.
