Sometimes, it is possible to find noteworthy makeup for a whole lot less. A few months back, there were a handful of limited edition Cover Girl products at the local dollar store. Talk about exciting! I am no stranger to Cover Girl makeup. In fact, it is one of the earliest brands that I can remember purchasing. Over the years, their products have continued to wow. The standouts are definitely their mascaras (specifically The Super Sizer) and eyeshadows (the TruNaked shadows are fabulous). Another standout? The Katy Perry inspired Katy Kat line of products. This was released several years back...but for whatever reason there were some Katy Kat Palettes at the dollar store recently. Cool Kat came home with me and it has been a whirlwind love affair ever since. Curious about this drugstore palette? Here is everything you need to know about this current obsession.
As you can see from the photograph above, the
Cool Kat eyeshadow palette has lots of colour but mixes that with ultra wearable shades. Unfortunately, this drugstore palette does not include actual shade names, but it does have a cute design. I just love the cat-shaped shadows in the center. The shadows themselves are really unique and have either a shimmer or pearl kind of finish. There is a shimmery red-pink, a fabulous blue holographic shade, a bold metallic shadow, a fabulous lilac shadow, and a rose gold cat-shaped eyeshadow in the center. On the other side of the palette, there is a stunning champagne shade, a soft pink, a holographic shadow with a green shift, a black shimmer shadow, and a glitzy gold in the center. The shade selection is incredible. I love that there are light, medium, and dark colours, lots of pretty finishes, and unexpected colours.
Clearly, the colour story is fabulous. The palette design is cute. And the price point was unbeatable. (It cost $4 CDN at the dollar store.) All that being said, what really wowed me was the formula. I cannot get over how smooth, buttery, and soft these shadows are. Not only are they richly pigmented, but they apply with ease and blend well. The formula is fantastic. Over the year, the
Cover Girl eyeshadows have continued to improve in overall quality. This is a prime example of that impressive formula. Though there are a lot of standout shades here, the rose gold shade, champagne shade, and lilac shade are my personal favourites. They are just so beautiful and have the most incredible finish. No wonder those shadows were incorporated into a recent makeup look that I created using the Cool Kat eyeshadow palette from Cover Girl.
The makeup look above was all about incorporating a subtle pop of colour. The end result was fun but not too over the top. It started with the rose gold shadow all over the lid. Then there was a bit of the champagne shade on the inner third. That incredible lilac colour was applied in the inner corner and the black shadow was used along the lower lash line and to smudge out the winged liner. I love that this look incorporated colour in a laid back way. Though this particular look was a little more subtle...I have used this palette in many ways since. The black and gold pair well together, the holographic green shade can be worn alone, and that blue is the perfect shade to utilize along the lower lash line. The Cool Kat eyeshadow palette makes it possible to have fun with colour in an easy and accessible way. All in all, this drugstore release is a winner.
Have you tried any Cover Girl eyeshadows? What do you think of the formula?
