urban decay stoned vibes eyeshadow palette (review + video)

Few things make me happier than themed makeup products. There is something so fun and whimsical about them! In the past, there have been more than a handful of themed items in my collection. Too Faced is well-known for their themes (you can check out almost all of my Too Faced blog posts for proof of that) but other brands like to dip their toes in the water as well. Take the latest release from Urban Decay as an example. The Stoned Vibes eyeshadow palette is all about crystals, stones, and good vibes. Ready to take a look inside? See how it performs? Here is a full review, makeup look, and live swatches.

The Stoned Vibes eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay is all about crystals. According to the brand, the palette is made up of "highly reflective vegan shades, infused with genuine tourmaline to block bad vibes and take your look higher." It certainly takes the crystal theme to a whole new level by actually infusing the eyeshadow shades with tourmaline. Then there are all of the other themed elements to consider. Like the packaging! The palette itself comes in a fairly standard plastic case. It is sturdy, sleek, and simple. But on the front, there is a glittery 3D crystal. It definitely makes the eyeshadow palette feel extra special. Another themed element? The eyeshadow names. From Jade to Bloodstone and Third Eye....the theme works.

So, how does this eyeshadow palette perform? There is a lot to love. Like the inclusion of a double ended brush. The quality is top-notch and the fluffy end makes it quick and easy to apply colour and blend out the crease. Stoned Vibes has four matte shadows (a light cream, peach, medium brown, and deep purple) to create the crease, blend out, and add depth. Those matte shades are absolutely incredible. They are smooth, pigmented, and easy to blend. I absolutely adore them.

Then there are those shimmery shades. Now, shimmer and glitter always make me happy. Unfortunately, these shimmer shades don't apply all that well with a brush. They really work best when you use your finger for application. Otherwise, the pigmentation just seems to fall flat. That doesn't mean that the palette is a miss. It just requires application with your finger, a wet brush, or a very tacky eyeshadow primer in order to achieve optimal colour payoff. Another option? Layering the shimmer shades on top of another eyeshadow shade. They definitely work well as eyeshadow toppers. Some of my favourite shades? Ojo (shimmery blue), Opal Aura (iridescent shimmer) and Vibes (soft lilac shimmer).

Overall, the Stoned Vibes eyeshadow palette has some good qualities and not as good qualities to consider. I love the theme, the packaging, and those matte shades. However, I wish the shimmer shades applied better with a brush. The shades are beautiful and have lots of shimmer and sparkle. It just isn't an ideal situation when you need to apply high end eyeshadow shades with your finger. The palette is good but it had the opportunity to be great.
