skin care week: pixi collagen tonic (review)

Pixi is a brand that tends to receive an awful lot of praise. Despite this, Pixi isn't a brand that I am overly familiar with. Only a handful of their products have made their way into my beauty collection over the years (including an eyeshadow palette and a highlight set). As for skin care products from the brand? None. The Pixi Collagen Tonic was a first for me. Ready to find out how it performed? If it is worth the price? Here is a full review as skin care week continues here on the creation of beauty is art.

First thing is first. Just what does the Pixi Collagen Tonic claim to do? The collagen and peptides volumizing toner claims to help promote a youthful looking complexion (by smoothing the appearance of fine lines and uneven skin texture), add hydration, and re-mineralize the skin. It also claims to be alcohol free and suitable for all skin types. According to the brand website, the toner can be applied morning and night with a cotton pad. It should be applied after cleansing and before moisturizing.

Those are the claims. Does this product actually live up to them? So far so good! This is ridiculously quick and easy to apply. It takes 20 seconds to apply to the face and neck. Plus, the formula is lightweight and absorbs quickly. That means you don't have to wait too long to move onto the next step of your skin care routine. The Pixi Collagen Tonic also adds a decent amount of hydration to the skin. As for those long-term claims...only time will tell. Fingers crossed this will also address fine lines and uneven skin texture. But for now, I am enjoying the ease of use and that extra dose of hydration.

There is one potential drawback to the Pixi Collagen Tonic. This does have a bit of a sickly sweet scent. It is light but noticeable. Personally, the scent doesn't appeal to me...but it doesn't deter me from using the product either. It will really depend on your own preferences. Thankfully, the scent doesn't linger and fades as soon as the product absorbs into the skin.

Overall, the Pixi Collagen Tonic is pretty impressive. It is easy to use, absorbs quickly, and adds a good amount of hydration. There are also those long-term claims to consider. (Fingers crossed it delivers and smoother skin is in my future!) This has a higher price point for the drugstore and costs about $20 CDN...but it is well worth the splurge.

Have you tried the Collagen Tonic? Are you a fan of Pixi products?
